Twerking at dinner is Trash
I initially thought this incident was fake news. A black business man in Dallas owns a restaurant called True Kitchen & Kocktails. His name is Kevin Kelley. His goal was to provide an upscale dining experience focusing on Black/African American customers. He hired staff from the community and spent thousands or perhaps millions of dollars to invest in this business venture. Mr. Kelley is being chastised for addressing a table of black women where one of the patrons decided to twerk in public, in the dining room, in full view of other patrons. Mr. Kelley voiced his personal and professional aspirations using pejoratives towards these patrons and is incurring ire from his valid viral tirade. Mr. Kelley is being convicted of bad judgement because he decided to provide a live DJ, who played booty bumping music which incited and encouraged this abhorrent behavior.
Music is part of our lives. Earbuds and headphones keep audiologists and hearing aid companies employed and thriving. Public music is played in elevators, hallways, commercials, doctor’s offices, malls, television shows, shopping centers and the list goes on. We have all heard different songs from different eras at different places in our lives and we casually hum, lo-key sing along and continue with our day.
