Shout out to Gary Chambers Jr.
I don’t attend school board meetings, but I might join the fray; if members of the community bring the four F’s: Fearless, Focus, Facts and Fire to the room like activist and publisher, Mr. Gary Chambers Jr.
East Baton Rouge, Louisiana had a school board meeting. If you are unfamiliar, the public votes for the school board members. They end up conducting business in a room with a written agenda, old business, new business, discussions, votes and public comment. Each public comment is timed, usually up to 3 minutes. The sessions are recorded for posterity and documentation purposes. Mr. Gary Chambers Jr. brought early fireworks to the proceedings and it was a pleasure to view on YouTube.
- He was Fearless! Gary (he is my new friend in my heart, so I would call him Gary)didn’t aimlessly walk up to the podium, he had a purposeful stride. He was comfortable and formidable when addressing the room. Gary looked directly at the school board members without wavering.
- Gary was Focused! He had notes and he placed them on the podium. He addressed the room with how he intended to talk about the name of the school, Robert E. Lee, but he had to table that thought to address Connie. Connie might be a former Board member by now. I don’t want to spoil it, but Connie needed SPF 4000 for the burn he inflicted.
