Shout out to September
It’s an easy calendar flip and hello to September. This month is the gatekeeper of the change of seasons. Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer. A last chance to wear shorts, eat potato salad and curse because you forgot to get a new propane tank for the grill. Some of the relatives may drop by with some party food favorites or ho hum grub for the dog to eat after they have left the building.
September also holds the actual seasonal change to fall on the 22nd. That should be the official day to break out the autumnal colors of decorations and pumpkin spice drinks and candles, but alas, the stores had their Halloween and Fall displays for sale two weeks ago. Unless climate change betrays us for real, we can retire the shorts, flip flops and deviled eggs to put on our favorite hoodie, hiking shoes and make some comfort food. I’m starting with chili or mac and cheese.
September is also the last month of the third quarter. Now is a great time to gather up the receipts and get them in order. Look for the flannel sheets and get to work on fall cleanup. Some of the summer clothes might need to be donated and a new coat for winter may be in order. Visit with your people, in person or with your favorite technology.
Have a fab September, everyone.
