Shoutout to Venus and Serena

They kept it classy at the Critics Choice Awards. They both looked extra fabulous. They sat and watched Will Smith who embodied their father in the film, King Richard win the Best Actor award. Will commented how he was honored that he was entrusted with the role and the story of their lives in becoming world class professional athletes. He said they were the ‘American Dream.’

They sat calmly and listened to Jane Campion use their names in vain while winning a Best Director award for the film, The Power of the Dog. “Venus and Serena you’re marvels but you don’t have to compete against the men like I do” is the quote from Campion. The Williams sisters had to compete against blondes and brunettes, their parents, country club management, referees, the USTA and a myriad of others on and off the tennis court. They soared and achieved beyond their wildest dreams. They kept their emotions in check, while their father, Richard instructed, guided and loved them through a gauntlet of envy and hate. Yet their achievements are again diminished on center stage by a Caucasian woman.

Kudos to Venus and Serena for keeping their fists at their side.
