Will Smith: Chivalrous?
As per usual, I skipped the Academy Awards programming from the red carpet to the actual ceremony. The only person that I know that won an Oscar is Ariana DeBose. What I didn’t know is that Will has held on to his personas in Ali and King Richard and has never lost his West Philadelphia by publicly slapping comedian Chris Rock in front of the world while defending his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith over an ill-conceived joke.
Please note: I do not condone violence
The Crown Act (H.R. 2116) recently passed in the House of Representatives regarding natural hairstyles for black people is undoubtedly triggering in the Smith household. Jada Pinkett-Smith is without her crown due to alopecia, an autoimmune disease that leads to baldness. She had recently spoken about her plight in articles and interviews. Baldness in women, while celebrated after the movie, Black Panther is a bone of contention and pain in real life.
It’s mystifying that Chris Rock would go into his old joke file and not joke about Will and Jada from 2016 with the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. Instead he uses the 1997 film, G.I. Jane to derive humor about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia? I don’t recall hearing him joke about Amy Schumer’s battle with trichotillomania which is a genetic illness that causes the afflicted to pull hair from parts of their body. Did he joke about CODA, an Academy Award…
